Who is Anthem Becoming?
Who Is Anthem Becoming?
Anthem Church Life Group Discussion Guide
"We are becoming like Jesus, together, for the sake of others, in the Pacific Northwest as it is in heaven."
Opening Prayer
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where He is inviting you to grow and where He is inviting Anthem Church to grow together.
FORMED
Spiritual Formation Into Christlikeness
Key Idea:
Spiritual formation is the lifelong process of being transformed into the image of Jesus in our thoughts, desires, intentions, and actions. We never graduate from formation. We are continually becoming more like Christ.
Discussion Questions
1. Where have you seen evidence of Christ being formed in your life over the last year?
2. What is one area of your character where you sense God inviting you to grow right now?
Recommended Resource
“Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life” by Donald S. Whitney
Whitney provides a practical roadmap for participating in the process of spiritual formation through biblical disciplines such as prayer, Scripture meditation, worship, fasting, service, stewardship, and evangelism. The book emphasizes that spiritual growth is not automatic; while transformation is ultimately God's work, believers are called to actively train themselves for godliness.
FILLED
Living Under the Influence of the Holy Spirit
Key Idea:
To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be governed, empowered, influenced, and animated by God's presence. The Christian life was never meant to be lived apart from the power of the Holy Spirit.
Discussion Questions
1. When have you experienced the Holy Spirit helping you do something beyond your natural ability?
2. How would you describe your current prayer life, and what might help you become more dependent on God?
Recommended Resource
“Practicing the Power” by Sam Storms
A practical guide to living a naturally supernatural life. Storms explores how ordinary Christians can grow in prayer, spiritual gifts, hearing God's voice, healing ministry, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit in everyday life.
FRUITFUL
Living for the Sake of Others
Key Idea:
God fills us so that we can bear witness to Jesus and participate in His mission. The church exists not merely for itself, but for the sake of a world that needs to experience the Kingdom of God.
Discussion Questions
1. Who has God placed in your life right now that may need to experience the love and truth of Jesus?
2. What fears or obstacles most often keep you from sharing your faith or inviting others into your spiritual life?
Recommended Resource
“The Gospel Comes with a House Key” by Rosaria Butterfield
Butterfield demonstrates how ordinary hospitality can become a powerful tool for mission. She challenges Christians to open their homes, lives, and tables to neighbors, strangers, and unbelievers as a practical expression of the gospel.
FAMILY
Becoming One Gospel Family
Key Idea:
God is building one family from every tribe, language, people, and nation. The Church is the family Jesus died to create—a family united not by bloodlines but by the blood of Christ.
Discussion Questions
1. How have you personally experienced the church functioning as a spiritual family?
2. What is one practical way you can move toward someone who is different from you in age, ethnicity, background, personality, or life stage?
Recommended Resource
“In Church as It Is in Heaven: Cultivating Multi-Ethnic Kingdom Communities in a Divided World” by Jamaal E. Williams and Timothy Paul Jones
This book presents a biblical vision for the Church as a foretaste of God's coming kingdom—a family united in Christ across ethnic, cultural, and social lines. Williams and Jones argue that a multiethnic community is not a secondary ministry strategy but a visible expression of the gospel itself. The book challenges churches to embody the reconciling work of Christ by cultivating genuine relationships, shared leadership, and kingdom-centered unity.
Prayer Response
Take a few moments to reflect on the four anchors:
Formed — Where is Jesus inviting me to become more like Him?
Filled — Where do I need to rely more deeply on the Holy Spirit?
Fruitful — Who is God calling me to love, serve, or reach?
Family — How can I help build a stronger gospel family at Anthem?
Close in Prayer
Pray for one another and for Anthem Church, asking God to continue forming us, filling us, making us fruitful, and building us into one gospel family.
"Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)
